Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Study Centre has been established in the Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded on 14th June, 2022. As per the Government policy, the chair is named after Dr. Shankarrao Chavan, the Former Home Minister of India and Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, to study the work and contribution of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan and to percolate it in the society.
It also aims to promote the education environment in the Marathwada region along with focusing active participation in research. The chair has been involved in organising special lectures, events and workshops. The chair looks forward to start the certificate and diploma courses for the students.

The Advisory Board of the Chair has been formed on 19th October 2022. The board has nine members. The Vice-Chancellor of the University is the President of the advisory board whereas the Co-ordinator of the Chair is the Secretory. Director, NSS and Director, DSD are the members by their designation. There are other five members in the committee. The meeting of the committee is scheduled at least twice a year.
On the occasion of 103rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan, a special guest lecture by renowned reporter Shri. Abhay Deshpande, Pune was organised on 14th July 2023. Teachers, researchers and students were present for this special lecture.
On the Occasion of 104th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan, a special guest lecture by renowned writer, critic and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr.Suresh Sawant , Nanded was organised on 14th July 2024. Dr. Suresh Sawant has remarkable contribution in Children’s literature in Marathi and he has edited the book entitled “Adhunik Bhagirath: Jalshankar Dr, Shankkarrao Chavan” which is published by the Government of Maharashtra. Dr. M.K. Patil, Dean, Science and Technology was the president of the function. Shri. Narendra Chavan, the member of the Management Council was the chief guest of the function. Teachers, researchers and students were present for this special lecture.
An interview and interaction Session with renowned activist and feminist writer Geetali V.M., Pune was jointly organised by Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Chair and the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies of the University on 18th January 2025. Dr. Geetali is an editor of “Milun Sarya Jani”, an acclaimed journal in Marathi. The Co-ordinator of the Chair, Dr. Yogini Satarkar took the interview followed by a fruitful interaction with Dr. Geetali. Students enthusiastic participation was the highlight of the programme.
On the Occasion of the 76th Marathwada Liberation Day and 104th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan, a handwritten Essay Competition was held for the UG and PG students of the Campus, Sub-campuses and the affiliated colleges of the University. The competition was in Marathi and English. The topics of the competition were –
83 Students participated in the competition. The prize distribution of the competition took place on 16th April 2025. Hon. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Manohar Chaskar presided over the function. The Members of the Hon. Management Council Shri. Naredra Chavan and Dr. Sangita Makone felicitated the prize winners.
On the occasion of 105th Birth anniversary of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan, a One Day workshop was organised on “Socio-Economic Development in Marathwada – Challenges and Perspectives” on 15th July 2025. Hon. Member of the Parliament and Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Ashokrao Chavan inaugurated the workshop and addressed the participants. The Hon. Vice- Chancellor of Gondwana University Dr. Prashant Bokare was the guest of honour. Hon. Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Manohar Chaskar presided over the function. Hon. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Hon. Members of the Management Council and Officers of the University were present. Dr. Naresh Bodhake, Professor, Gokhale Institute, Pune and Dr. Pramode Sadolikar, Socio-Empirical Research Foundation, Pune were the resource persons for the respective sessions. More than 80 professors and teachers of Economics from the affiliated colleges participated in the workshop along with some research students. The Chair is looking forward to conduct a survey in the four districts of the university jurisdiction regarding sustainable development. The said workshop was the first step to identify the current scenario.
